Based on the concept of the Tambourin a Cordes, a French folk instrument traditionally accompany a tabor pipe, the string drum can be used as a wonderful percussive drone accompaniment for many types of music. Think Hammered Dulcimer meets Tongue Drum meets Autoharp.
A long hardwood box with 16 strings tuned in 8 chords and struck with wooden hammers or mallets, our String Drum comes tuned to stock chords D/A, F/C Gm/Dm & Am/Em, but it can easily be tuned in an endless variety of configurations. Retune the 3rd's of the minor chords to major or tune one of the root strings down for 7th's, the possibilities are endless.
Measures 32" Long, 5" wide, 3" deep, and comes with tuning wrench, hardwood hammers and tuning sheet. Hard Rubber Mallets and Jim Bows can also be used to play this String Drum.
