Dave Cipriani on Indian Slide Guitar

Dave Cipriani has received awards from the Maryland State Arts Council and the Baltimore Office of Promotions and the Arts.  Dave’s diverse background include studies with jazz great Charlie Byrd, classical guitarist Christopher Parkening, sitar master Jai Kishor, and Indian Slide guitar pioneer Pandit Barun Kumar Pal, a senior disciple of Ravi Shankar.  Dave is currently a student of Ustad Aashish Khan.

Dave holds an MFA in North Indian Music at California Institute of the Arts, which included studies with Balkan/classical/world pioneer guitarist Miroslav Tadic, Indian masters Ustad Aashish Khan and Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri, and classical guitarist Stuart Fox. 

Dave leads the world fusion band Mahadev, performs with Kirtan singer Terra Gold and singer Rafe Pearlman, and performs solo at concert venues and yoga studios in the LA area.

Vivek Virani on Tablas

Vivek Virani has been involved in Indian devotional music since childhood, when he played tabla and sang for bhajans and qawwalis at interfaith gatherings. After completing his BA in music from University of Virginia, he moved to Pune, Maharashtra, where he had the opportunity to train intensively in classical tabla performance and rhythmic theory under the renowned artist Taalyogi Pt. Suresh Talwalkar. He continues to travel to India to study with Talwalkar, and receives additional training from Pt. Swapan Chaudhuri while in the US. He is currently pursuing a PhD in ethnomusicology at UCLA.
